Born March 1949 in Wahpeton, ND. Received his bachelor's degree from Vanderbilt University in 1971 and his law degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 1974. Admitted to practice in North Dakota in 1974. Engaged in private legal practice in Minot, ND, from 1974-2006. Appointed district judge in 2006. Married with three children.
