Minutes I. Opening Business A. The conference call meeting convened at 10:00 am. Members presented included Honorable Mikal Simonson, Chair; Hon Ronald Hilden, Hon. Carol Ronning Kapsner; Kurt Schmidt; Gladys Schmitt; Judy Slotto-Susie; Dion Ulrich; Judge Geiger. Also in attendance; Carla Kolling, and Mike Sandal. B. Minutes of the February 19, 2004 meeting were approved after changing Paragraph 6, Page 6 to read: A motion was made by Judge Hilden, seconded by Kurt Schmidt, that all full-time Electronic Court Reporters will have their
pay grade advanced from 5 to 6 and that the proposed job description
"Judicial Secretary to a District Judge"; be renamed to Electronic
Court Reporter and that it be reformatted to reflect our present job
description. The motion passed 5 to 2 with Judge Geiger abstaining. C. Minutes of the March 1, 2004 meeting were approved after the following change to the last paragraph on page 2. Justice Kapsner and Judy Slotto-Susie had to leave the meeting prior to the vote being taken. II. Stenographic Court Reporter: Judge Geiger moved and was seconded by Judge Hilden that job duty #1 of both the Stenographic and Electronic Court Reporter descriptions be changed to read: Accurately record, transcribe, and certify the record of court and jury trial proceedings by computer aided equipment per state and appellate requirements. Motion Passed. Judge Geiger moved and was seconded by Judy Slotto-Susie that job duty #4 of both the Stenographic and Electronic Court Reporter descriptions delete: Assist in monitoring the flow of cases through various courts and docket currency standards. Motion Passed. Judge Geiger moved and was seconded by Judy Slotto-Susie that Knowledge Requirements - bullet five have legal terminology added to the end of the phrase. Motion Passed. Judge Geiger moved and was seconded by Judge Hilden that Knowledge Requirements - bullet #7 have Considerable added to the beginning of the phrase. Motion Passed. Kurt Schmidt moved and was seconded by Justice Kaspner that the Knowledge Requirement of Realtime captioning and case view transcription applications be deleted. Motion Passed. Judge Geiger moved and was seconded by Justice Kaspner that the final bullet be changed to read: Considerable knowledge of court rules, procedures, and functions. Motion Passed. Judge Geiger moved and was seconded by Judge Hilden that the following be added to the Knowledge Requirements: Considerable knowledge of secretarial practices and procedures. Motion Passed. Judge Geiger moved and was seconded by Judge Hilden that the following be added to the Knowledge Requirements: Basic knowledge of law and legal principles. Motion Passed. Kurt Schmidt moved and was seconded by Judy Slotto-Susie that in the Skill Requirements of both the Stenographic and Electronic Court Reporter descriptions include the following change: Skilled in the use of word processing and internet browsing applications. Motion Passed. Judge Geiger moved and was seconded by Judy Slotto-Susie that in the Skill Requirements of both the Stenographic and Electronic Court Reporter descriptions include the following change: Basic legal research skills. Motion Passed. Judge Geiger moved and was seconded by Judge Hilden that the following be added to the Skill Requirements: Keyboarding skills. Motion Passed. III. Electronic Court Reporter - District Judge: Justice Kaspner moved and was seconded by Gladys Schmitt to change the name of Electronic Court Reporter - District Judge to Electronic Court Recorder - District Judge. Motion Passed. Justice Kaspner moved and was seconded by Gladys Schmitt to change the name of Stenographic Court Reporter to Court Reporter. Motion Passed. Judge Gieger moved and Judge Hilden seconded a motion to accept the job descriptions of Electronic Court Recorder - District Judge and Stenographic Court Reporter. Motion passed by a 5-3 vote. Meeting Adjourned 11:30 am.
