The Judicial Nominating Committee has received letters from Governor John Hoeven convening the Committee to screen applicants and submit a list of nominees to fill one district court vacancies. The vacancy is in the Southwest Judicial District as a result of Judge Allan Schmalenberger's retirement.
The committee is now accepting applications from qualified attorneys interested in the district court appointment. The judgeship, with chambers in Dickinson, will be filled under Chapter 27-25 N.D.C.C. To receive an application, please contact me or my assistant, Jeanne Schlittenhard, at the Association office (800-472-2685 / 701-255-1404; jeanne@sband.org). The application form, financial disclosure information and information concerning the interview process will be mailed to you.
Applications must be received in the SBAND office by 5:00 pm on Monday, July 20, 2009.
Interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of August 24, 2009.
The State Bar Association will conduct a statewide judicial candidate evaluation of the applicants before the Judicial Nominating Committee meets. It is anticipated the evaluation forms will be mailed to Association members no later than Thursday, July 23, 2009, with a return deadline of Friday, August 7, 2009.
